CO-CURRICULAR CLASSES

Religion

One of the avenues through which we help students develop good character is through weekly religion classes. This also helps students deepen their spiritual awareness and learn about the Christian faith. Forty Martyrs Armenian Apostolic Church, located adjacent to the school, plays an active role in students’ life. Students attend church services during religious holidays to receive Holy Communion. The Pastor meets with students in church on a monthly basis to guide them spiritually and deepen their understanding of concepts taught in religion class.

Arts

Our ultimate purpose in developing various programs in arts education is to help our students discover a love for any kind of art-form, whether it be fine art or performing arts.

Our weekly music classes led by Anahit Khachigian help students prepare for annual programs, and also learn about different musical genres, lyrics, famous composers, singing in harmony, music composition, and more.

Our weekly Armenian dance classes offer students an exciting opportunity to learn and experience the vibrant traditional dances of Armenia. Led by Lily Grigorian, students will be introduced to the graceful movements, intricate footwork, and expressive storytelling that are integral to Armenian dance. Throughout the class, students will not only develop physical coordination, balance, and rhythm, but also gain an appreciation for the cultural significance of each dance.

Our instrumental music program introduces our 4th-6th grade students to 3 different string instruments (violin, viola, and violoncello), their parts, and how to handle them properly. Fundamentals of reading music notation will be introduced, including note names, rhythms, and basic musical terms. Students will be encouraged to work together as a team and develop listening skills while playing in a group setting. Basic music theory concepts such as time signatures, key signatures, and musical terms to enhance their understanding of music will be taught throughout the year. Love and appreciation of music will be fostered by creating a positive and supportive learning environment, where students can express themselves both verbally and through their instruments. Our students will showcase their progress through small in-class performances, informal recitals, and an end-of-the-year concert.

We have revamped our Art Program by partnering with the Great Artist Program with lessons thoughtfully curated to include masterpieces and artists from around the world, from different time periods, and many different art movements.

Physical Education

The physical education program at AGM has recently been revamped with the hiring of a new coach who has been drilling students and working on building their physical endurance and stamina. Nutrition education is incorporated during PE class in order for students to understand the connection between good nutrition and immunity along with promoting a healthy lifestyle.
